How to Film Blythe Doll Videos: Easy Phone Tips for Reels, TikTok and YouTube

A five-second eye change can stop a scroll. Here is how to film Blythe beautifully with just a phone.

Quick answer

Blythe doll videos work best when they are short, well lit and tell one small story: an unboxing, a hair restyle, an outfit change or a simple stop motion. Film on your phone near a window and keep most Blythe doll videos under 30 seconds.

Her eye change is made for video.

Blythe doll videos are some of the most charming clips on social media. Her colour-changing eyes, tiny outfits and expressive face come alive on camera, and you only need a phone to start. Here are eight easy tips and five video ideas.

8 Tips for Better Blythe Doll Videos

  1. Use window light. Soft side light flatters her face and makes eye chips sparkle.
  2. Keep the phone steady. A small tripod or a stack of books works.
  3. Film at her eye level, not from above.
  4. Shoot short clips. Five to ten seconds per shot is plenty.
  5. Move slowly. Slow hand movements look smoother on camera.
  6. Clean the background. A plain wall or fabric keeps the focus on her.
  7. Add gentle sound. Soft music or real sounds, like a pull of the eye string, feel personal.
  8. Film vertically for Reels and TikTok, horizontally for YouTube.

Stop motion tip

Shoot about 12 photos for every second of video. Move one thing at a time, keep the phone locked in place, and you will be surprised how lively she looks.

It was a very long time ago that I had purchased my first Blythe doll 2nd hand from a flea market here in Wichita, KS. I was in my early 20’s when I purchased her. She was dressed in her original outfit that she worn when produced by Kenner.A yellow kaftan, and wild dark hair.. I loved her so much. She was safe after I had my house fire. About 10 years after I purchased her..My mother and I purchased a house together
At one point we where at a time, when funds where low,and I sold her on ebay to make ends meet. This was during the era when the “Blythe doll” was getting her 2nd chance in the doll world and many wanted to get their hands on an original Kenner “Blythe doll”. I had person purchase her all the way from China.Considering when I purchased her from the flea market years back for $20s…I did make a good profit of a 100 % over. Which was able to take care of bills.. . I was able to help out but now being 55yrs old. There was and still is a big whole in my heart that never seems to fade… so hopefully in the near future I will be able to purchase one for myself…
Thank you for keeping her alive for me and many others.
