Petite Blythe

Petite Blythe is smaller in comparison to the normal Blythe. Being 4 inched tall (10 cm), it has a bendable body and moveable eyelids. However, there are newer versions of Petite Blythe available in the market.

The price varies for Petite Blythe dolls. The retail price for the normal Petite dolls is around  USD$60 going upwards to USD$3000 dollars for the limited edition of Petite Blythe.

Like all vintage products, the demand for older Blythe dolls, especially Petite Blythe is more as compared to the new ones. Collectors will do almost any things to get their hands on the dolls they want. These dolls can sell for a price in thousands of dollars for an original Kenner and around 1000 dollars for the first edition of Neo dolls from Takara.

In the year 1972, Kenner was responsible for releasing 4 versions of the doll in the United States of America. These versions included:
• A brunette with bangs
• a center part blonde
• a redhead with bangs
• a darker brunette with thinner bangs.

Moreover, there were 12 different outfits released along with these dolls. Petite Blythe was also present at that time. Furthermore, four wigs were also released into the market along the dolls so that a variety of looks could be offered with the doll. In Japan, the dolls were released as well. The name under which they were released was Ai Ai Chan. Starting from the year 2001, Takara started releasing Blythe dolls periodically.

This included not only Petite Blythe but also normal dolls. However, new versions of the doll were released every month. An estimated 130 versions have been released so far in the Neo size from 2001 to 2009, and around 280 different versions have been released in the Petite Blythe area. The new versions of the Petite Blythe dolls have moveable eyelids and bendable bodies as mentioned before. The bodies of the full-size dolls, however, vary in terms of the time at which they were released. The early releases in the year 2002, the body of Liccadoll were used. However, the texture of the surface of these dolls was rather glossy. In the year 2006, a new face was introduced that looked more like Kenner as the eyes were much wider. In 2009 there was another new release that had matte texture along with smaller eye holes.

So let me ask you this question at the end. Are you planning to buy a petite doll or regular-sized (12”) doll? Petite dolls are in the USD$60 and up range, like has been mentioned before. Regular-sized dolls are in the USD$100, USD$150 and the prices tend to go higher and higher in terms of the age of the doll and the number that is available in the market. However, if you are a new customer to Blythe, you may not immediately differentiate between a normal and a Petite Blythe. Go and search different genres to get acquainted with the product before you get your hands on it. And when you do, just remember that you are not just an owner of a doll.
